To be somewhere flat.
Look I'm not a wuss, by any measure. But the hills of İstanbul straight up murdered my dawgs(feet).
I feel like one of those people with feet the size of elephant trunks, and while that may be an exaggeration, I definitely think the feet hath swoll a bit.
Imagine the joy I'm feeling knowing that I'm now out of İstanbul and into the flat-ish beach town of Fethiye. İstanbul is very walkable, if you like pain.
Day 5, here we go.
I slept in this morning but being in this very amazing and cute penthouse suite(that by the grace of sailor friends was arranged for me to stay in, bless 🙏⛵), when the sun is peaking, I'm up. It hits me like it does at home with my smart alarm clock light bulbs, even while wearing a sleep mask.
Plus not to brag but I'm just like really connected to the sun(as one should be).
If anyone is reading this and hasn't previously heard me speak, apologies now because you may not understand my rhythm, flow, and sarcasm…just yet.
So I dozed in and out allotting myself till 11 to properly make a jolt up. I had stayed up till 3ish because this is Türkiye time baby. Back in the states I'm a very strict 11pm-sunrise type of gal.
I'm religious, I'm adamant, I'm just straight up hardcore about the amount and quality of my sleep….except while away of course 🤡. This is only because sleep is one of the most important things you can do for your health. You know I like doing my part, even if sh*t hits the fan, I like to be able to say that I did what I could with what I had.
Everything in moderation, even doing “my part”.
After waking, I hopped a shower (kind of feels useless with the amount of sweat going on here but at least I'm sweating clean) and headed out for breakfast.
And wouldn't you just know it but the place I picked, oh it's just one hill that leads to another hill that drops you into another hill before your destination.
I had a conversation with my feet reassuring them that they could do this next trek.
And we made it to a lil cafe that is in what I'm guessing one of the richer areas of town. I'm guessing because MaxMara was across the street and the Gucci store was down the way.
This is the perfect breakfast for me. Eggs on rye, olives, a salad of herbs, avocado, and a salty Turkish cheese.
Is it super Turkish? Probably not. Was it perfect for me? Yes…and all that for about $11.
I had a cappuccino and an Americano because that's just how hardcore I am. The iced coffee looked good because it was coffee ice cubes and a glass of milk but I shuttered at the idea of a whole glass of milk. They also made a mint lemonade that just looked bougie as hell. I already had two drinks so I had to restrain myself.
After all that deliciousness, I began walking down the hills that I had come up when I happened upon this scene:
They were just hanging out and looking at me as if I was the sus one.
I also saw some cute boyz in the hood.
Did I tell you that I came to Türkiye for the cats?
Because I came to Türkiye for the cats.
Around the time that I arrived back at the Beşiktaş palace, it was time to Uber to the airport.
Another cabbie tried to get me but my cabbie pulled in honking and the first guy drove away 🙃.
I got to the airport and only had some small drama with my luggage before breezing through and navigating to my gate.
I've been incredibly lucky with logistics in this huge and apparently well-planned airport.
I was so blessed with a seat row to myself, and the Dramamine kicked in so I had myself a lil plane nap. I woke up just in time to see the mountains as we were nearing landing at Dalaman.
I pre-ordered transport and it did not disappoint. A very handsome Turkish man picked me up(they make a lot of those here) and escorted me to my place in Fethiye. I had a call scheduled for an hour after I arrived so I rushed to get some snacks: 2 peaches, 1 apple, 3 Carlsberg tallboys, some popcorn, and a half chicken from a chicken shop. All-in-all my mad dash for snacks cost about $13.
The mountain view from my Airbnb (more pics tomorrow). And the courtyard view with another kitty(which I've been advised to not encourage to come inside 🙄).
I had a dinner of Carlsberg, Chicken, and a peach and it was just lovely.
It's been a long day of traveling and I'm looking forward to seeing the turquoise coast tomorrow.
Goodnight from Fethiye ⛱️
