“This girl Listened to bad Bunny once and is now fluent in Spanish” / by Tahlia Roper

😅

It's a catchy title though, inspired by click bait and the te-hes from within my brain.

Let's talk about language learning.

I'll be honest I have half-assed attempted to learn a different language before and I'm here to say, that's ok.

Half-assed is better than no-assed when it comes to language learning.

I've been practicing Turkish for a bit and now I'm shifting back to my original love, Spanish.

And I'll probably shift back to Turkish once I'm more solid in my Spanish. (Also planning my learning to coincide with travel)

Spanish for me is on the tip of my tongue, years of vocabulary buried in time and waiting to be thrust forth.

I love the way it feels to speak in Spanish and pronounce Spanish words.

I love to yell out, Mi corazón, mi luna, mi amor! When I talk about my crushes to my friends.

I love to say, “Buenos noches gato” and “iyi geceler kedi”(Türkçe) to Haroldo. Thank God cats can't roll their eyes, I feel it anyways though.

Language is just fun, delicious, and exciting.

I think that people don't attempt to learn a new language because of the idea that it's sooo hard to be fluent, as if fluency is the only goal.

Language is just fun to know! Why not learn what you can instead of not attempting because you don't think you'll be perfect.

I won't be perfect in Spanish and I sure the hell won't be perfect in Turkish but I can be proficient enough to crack some jokes, make someone smile, travel around, and make my cat hate me…and that's good enough for me!

Language like food, is another door into a different culture and perspective and that is invaluable to me.

Buenos noches 🌛
